Carbon Fiber Sheet Pultrusion Process
In today’s advanced materials field, carbon fiber sheets stand out for their excellent performance and are widely used in many industries such as aerospace, automobile manufacturing, sports equipment, etc. The pultrusion process of carbon fiber sheets is one of the key technologies to achieve its high performance.
The pultrusion process is an efficient method for continuously manufacturing composite profiles with a constant cross-section. For carbon fiber sheets, this process can give them the characteristics of high strength, high stiffness, light weight and excellent corrosion resistance. First, let’s take a deep look at the specific steps of the pultrusion process of carbon fiber sheets.

The first step is to lay out the yarn. In this process, the carbon fibers on the yarn frame are drawn from the yarn tube and arranged in a neat and uniform manner.
Just like a skilled artist carefully arranging the lines on the canvas, each carbon fiber must be placed accurately in the right position to ensure the performance of the final product. In order to avoid the twisting of the fiber, a rotating mandrel is usually used to draw the fiber from the outer wall of the yarn tube to ensure the smoothness of the yarn.
Next is resin impregnation. The neatly arranged carbon fibers pass through a resin glue tank, where the carbon fibers are impregnated with the formulated unsaturated resin. The resin is like an adhesive that tightly binds the individual carbon fibers together. This process needs to be strictly controlled to ensure that the fibers can be fully impregnated with resin without too much resin residue.
Either the straight tank impregnation method or the drum impregnation method can be used, of which the straight tank impregnation method is more commonly used because it can better ensure the impregnation effect. Preforming is a key step. The resin-impregnated carbon fibers enter the preforming device, where they are initially shaped and the excess resin is squeezed out.
The preforming device is like a prototype of a mold, laying the foundation for the subsequent curing process. Through precise design and adjustment, it can ensure that the carbon fiber sheet has the required shape and size during the preforming stage.

Then, the heating and curing stage begins. The preformed impregnated carbon fiber is placed in a mold that is carefully designed and divided into three heating zones: preheating zone, gel zone, and curing zone.
In the preheating zone, the resin begins to heat up and gradually becomes more viscous; after entering the gel zone, the resin undergoes a gelation reaction, changing from a viscous state to a gel state; finally, in the curing zone, the resin is completely cured, cross-linked, and undergoes a phase change to form a strong carbon fiber composite material.
This process is like a carefully choreographed chemical reaction, and the temperature and time must be precisely controlled at each stage to ensure that the resin can be fully cured without damaging the carbon fiber.
Finally, it is traction, winding, and cutting. The traction device pulls the formed carbon fiber sheet out of the mold, just like pulling a piece of fine cloth from a loom.
Then, it is collected by the winding device, and when it reaches a certain length, it is cut to obtain a carbon fiber sheet of the required size.

The pultrusion process of carbon fiber sheets has many advantages. First, it is a continuous production process that can greatly improve production efficiency and reduce production costs. Secondly, due to the use of precise molds and control processes, it can ensure that the product has a high degree of consistency and stability.
In addition, the pultrusion process can also produce carbon fiber sheets with complex cross-sectional shapes to meet the needs of different application scenarios. However, this process also faces some challenges. For example, various parameters such as resin viscosity, temperature, impregnation time, curing temperature and pulling speed need to be strictly controlled during the process.
Deviations in any parameter may lead to a decline in product quality. At the same time, it is also necessary to prevent peeling, cracking, bubbles, color difference and other problems on the surface of the product, and take corresponding solutions in time.

Therefore, the carbon fiber sheet pultrusion process is a complex and sophisticated technology that provides us with a high-performance material solution. With the continuous advancement of science and technology, I believe that this process will continue to be improved and developed, providing strong support for innovation and development in more fields.
Whether in the high-altitude soaring of aerospace, in the high-speed driving of automobile manufacturing, or in the fierce competition of sports equipment, the carbon fiber sheet pultrusion process will continue to play an important role in shaping more outstanding high-performance materials.
